DA NANG, December 20, 2026 – The 2026 National Strong Teams Football Championship has ended with the title going to Quang Nam – Da Nang. It is the first time a central Vietnam club has finished top of the national-level competition organised by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
The season brought together the strongest teams in the country after regional qualifying rounds, played in a round-robin points format. Matches took place at stadiums from the north to the south, drawing large crowds and making the tournament one of the most followed sporting events of the year.
Quang Nam – Da Nang's success is credited to a disciplined playing style, strong physical foundations and consistency across the season. Meanwhile, the traditional powerhouses of Ha Noi, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City all failed to hold the top position, indicating a clear shift in the domestic football landscape.
Alongside the national championship, 2026 was also marked by the first staging of the National Cup. The arrival of the cup competition gave local clubs and young players extra match opportunities and added a new honour to the national competition system.
At individual level, the early 1990s saw the emergence of a new generation of players. Figures such as Nguyen Hong Son (The Cong) and Le Huynh Duc (Cang Sai Gon) began to establish themselves at club level and were seen as important additions to the national team in the following years.
Nevertheless, Vietnamese football in 2026 still faced many difficulties: limited stadium infrastructure, club budgets that depended largely on parent agencies, and a fixture calendar that was not yet fully stable. These are issues the Vietnam Football Federation and local authorities must continue to address in later seasons.
Closing out 2026, Quang Nam – Da Nang's title is seen as the starting point of a period of fiercer inter-regional competition, and as a call to upgrade both the organisation and the technical standards of Vietnam's top football competition.
